Volt

The volt (symbol: V) is the unit of electric potential, electric potential difference (voltage), and electromotive force in the International System of Units (SI). It is named after the Italian physicist Alessandro Volta (1745–1827).

Examples of use of volt
1. This chair/bed not only houses a 12–volt battery to operate my ventilator, it has two 24–volt batteries to motorize it.
2. Tasers deliver a 50,000–volt jolt through two barbed darts that can penetrate clothing.
3. GM‘s Volt would use its battery pack and electric motor as the primary source of power.
4. Volt owners will be able to fully charge its lithium–ion battery by plugging it into a 110–volt outlet for approximately six hours a day, which for most drivers will presumably be while they are sleeping.
5. The company hopes to bring the Volt to market in 2010 as well.
